Our Lady of the Third Millennium Canvas

Icon by Kiko Argüello based on the Virgin of Vladimir, which is in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

The protagonist is the gaze of the Virgin: it is not we who look at the Virgin, but she who looks at us, at our sufferings, at our sins, at our anguish... and provides, as she saw and provided in Canaan of Galilee when there was no wine at the wedding. The fiery red and yellow colours recall the burning bush from which God spoke to Moses. It is the fire of divine zeal for the salvation of men.
